First, the Lord will destroy
(šmd) the high places. Canaanite religious practices were often conducted on mountains or raised platforms that bore idols. Second, the Lord will cut down
(krt) their incense altars. The exact meaning of the term incense altar
is uncertain. It may be connected to items that were used in the worship of the Phoenician god Baal Hammon. Third, God promises that those who worship such idols will share the same fate; they will be annihilated and cut down dead.
30 And I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you.
