1 The LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying,

The primary emphasis of the Holiness Code in the book of Leviticus is to underscore the holiness of Israel as a people chosen by God. Having been set free from slavery in Egypt, the Hebrews have been set apart for the service of God. In this context, the festivals and celebrations of the nation are presented. The people are required to keep these holy days in order to be a holy people.
