  2. Exposition

How is the special nature of the weekly Sabbath revealed?

Leviticus 23:3 (ESV)

3 “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work. It is a Sabbath to the LORD in all your dwelling places.

The weekly Sabbath was first established by God at the conclusion of creation (Genesis 2:1–3). It is therefore foundational to the structure of the world. Additionally, the principle of one in seven affects the entire festival structure within this chapter. For example, seven festivals are mentioned, most of which occur in the seventh month of the year.
