Leviticus 22:4–6 outline a variety of common ways in which a priest may become unclean. The following prohibitions were found in the Cleanliness Code of Leviticus 11:1–15:33, all of which were binding on the Israelites. Skin disease, for example, was dealt with in Leviticus 13:1–14:57, bodily discharges in Leviticus 15:1–33, and swarming creatures in Leviticus 11:1–47.
4 None of the offspring of Aaron who has a leprous disease or a discharge may eat of the holy things until he is clean. Whoever touches anything that is unclean through contact with the dead or a man who has had an emission of semen,
