What other pagan mourning rituals were the Hebrew to avoid?
Leviticus 19:28 (ESV)
28You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the LORD.
The Israelites were not to practise self-immolation, that is, giving themselves up as a sacrifice. Nor were they to bear tattoos (kᵉṯō’ḇěṯ). The word tattoo refers to a writing incision.
28 You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the LORD.
