The final phrase of Leviticus 18:1–30 reminds the Israelites of the basis of these laws. The Lord himself is the one to define sexual conduct and sexual purity in the lives of his people. The phrase, I am the Lord,
forms an inclusion here and at the beginning of the chapter.
30 So keep my charge never to practice any of these abominable customs that were practiced before you, and never to make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God.”
