1. Joshua 10:21 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the significance of the phrase, "not a man moved his tongue against any of the people of Israel"?

Joshua 10:21 (ESV)

21 then all the people returned safe to Joshua in the camp at Makkedah. Not a man moved his tongue against any of the people of Israel.

This expression is also found Exodus 11:7, where it is used in relation to dogs. Perhaps the author of Joshua is reminding Israel how God miraculously delivered them at an earlier time in Egypt and also subtly equating the accursed Canaanites with dogs.1
