How does Jesus react when the two brothers approach him?

Mark 10:36 (ESV)

36 And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”

The way the question is asked seems rather wordy, but in fact indicates that it concerns a seriously meant, official request: Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you (Mark 10:35b)! Jesus allows them to make the request: What do you want me to do for you? (Mark 10:36).1
