Speaking to a crowd of people in northern Galilee, it was a long journey to Jerusalem and back. Though it is possible that Jesus really wants people to leave their gift, it is more likely that he is exaggerating in order to make a point. Reconciliation is of utmost importance, and it must be sought as soon as a problem comes to light. 1 Religious duty is a shame and a pretence if there is poor behaviour for which one ought to apologize (see 1 Samuel 15:22; Isaiah 1:10–18; Hosea 6:6; Micah 6:6–8). 2
