What does it mean to “become conceited”?

Galatians 5:26 (ESV)

26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Paul forbids pride, which manifests itself in irritating and provoking others so that quarrels and fighting ensue. Envy also flows from pride, since one becomes embittered at the success and happiness of others.1
