What does it mean to “live by the Spirit”?

Galatians 5:25 (ESV)

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Christians live by virtue of the Holy Spirit.1 He is the one who made us alive and united us to Christ through faith (Galatians 2:2–3; Ephesians 2:1–9). Because of what he has done, we must make it our aim to keep in step with his plans and desires.
