How did Simeon know that Jesus was the Lord’s Christ?

Luke 2:28 (ESV)

28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,

God the Holy Spirit revealed to Simeon that Jesus was the promised Christ. We are not told how this revelation took place. Through the words of Simeon, God testifies about Jesus that he is the Messiah.1
