1. Song of Solomon 6:5 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does the man ask the woman to turn her eyes away from him?

Song of Solomon 6:5 (ESV)

5 Turn away your eyes from me, for they overwhelm me Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead.

The request that the woman turn her eyes away from him further expresses his sense of her power. She can unnerve him with a single glance.1 Her look overwhelms him. The Hebrew word rahab means to cause to tremble. She has a mysterious power over him that he finds both fascinating and slightly terrifying.2
