Why does the woman speak of the man's wavy locks that are as black as a raven?

Song of Solomon 5:11 (ESV)

11 His head is the finest gold; his locks are wavy, black as a raven.

She describes his hair as taltallim (translated as wavy), a word which occurs only here, and which may describe date-palm clusters. Like them, his hair is thick and wavy, perhaps even unruly.1 He has dark hair, as black as a raven.
