22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman.

Paul is referring to Genesis 16:1 – 17:27 and Genesis 21:1–34. The two sons in view are Ishmael, the son of the slave woman Hagar, and Isaac, the son of Sarah.
