Why did the Galatians think it necessary to observe various days, months, seasons, and years?

10 You observe days and months and seasons and years!

Encouraged by the Judaizers, the Galatians were being taught that obedience to old covenant law is a means of retaining and guaranteeing God’s favour following faith in Christ. They are holding fast to religious observances as a means of justification.1
