1. Galatians 3:22 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean for the world to be a prisoner of sin?

Galatians 3:22 (ESV)

22 But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Scripture as a whole testifies to the fact that mankind has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Subject to condemnation, we are all prisoners of sin in the sense that we cannot stop sinning.1 As a result of our sinful nature we are unable to render the obedience that is required for eternal life in God’s presence.
