How did Paul’s death to the law free him to live to God?

Galatians 2:19 (ESV)

19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God.

Having realized that he was unable to keep the law in order to earn God’s favour, Paul’s life was now focused on the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).1 The details of the old covenant law were no longer in the forefront of his mind.2
