Why does Paul address the churches in Galatia as “brothers”?

Galatians 1:11 (ESV)

11 For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel.

Despite the fact that the Galatians are turning from the gospel to embrace the message proclaimed by the Judaizers, Paul still refers to them as brothers.1 He still regards them as belonging to the same family, fellow believers in the church of God.2
