Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV)

1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

Solomon writes that everything has a specific season. Everything has its appointed time. This is something that totally engages his thoughts. A person would like to hold on to certain times because they are so beautiful, so good. You don't want to let such a time come to an end. Other times there is so much sadness and misery in your life that you hope it will all be over as soon as possible.

As a human being you cannot control time, no matter how much you might like to. Everything has its time. We see this also in the life of Christ. We then see how everything has to do with the governance and plan of God. I will mention two examples:

  • John 7:30: So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

  • John 17:1: When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you.
