1. Revelation 22:5 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why are we told a second time that “night will be no more”?

Revelation 22:5 (ESV)

5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

John had already written these identical words in Revelation 21:25, when he drew out that nightfall would never pause the city’s trade and traffic. In the present verse the reference to no more night emphasizes the blessed effects of the glorious presence of God himself among the saints, in the sense that his servants can worship (obey, hence adore) him as they see his face around the clock; night, darkness, will never hide God’s face from them and so suspend their praise.
