1. 1 Peter 5:9 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does Peter mean with his reference to “your brotherhood throughout the world”?

1 Peter 5:9 (ESV)

9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

Peter’s readers lived in the western regions of Asia Minor (present-day Turkey) (1 Peter 1:1). But they had brothers in the Lord scattered all over the world (Colossians 1:23). Peter’s readers ought not to be provincial in their outlook so as to be concerned only with themselves, but ought to realize that their struggles were universal.
