Why is the phrase “same kinds of suffering” in the plural?

1 Peter 5:9 (ESV)

9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

Each person’s struggle is different. Joseph was maligned (even sold) for his piety in a very different way than David was, and Job attacked in a very different way again. Struggles in relation to the faith are different in today’s North America than they are in, say, Africa or Asia. The plural underscores the variety of the struggles God’s people may experience.
