1. 1 Peter 5:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What (or when) is “the proper time”?

1 Peter 5:6 (ESV)

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,

The term used here means simply “in time” and describes that God himself sets the time. The exaltation can happen at the end of time (when Christ returns) or indeed any time before the end. The correct human reaction to “at the proper time” is patience, and acceptance of what God in wisdom sets on our path.
