What do the words “so that” mean in this sentence?

1 Peter 5:6 (ESV)

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,

With these words Peter draws out that there is a purpose to deliberately adopting a posture of humility under God’s mighty hand. This “mighty hand” will in due time exalt.
