But…there is another, terrible possibility. When the Creator hides his face, then fear will reign on earth and creation will come to ruin. All creatures will become upset; fear and panic will take hold of every living being.
When the Creator takes away their breath, they will return to dust. The wise Elihu already knew this, for, as he once said, If he should focus his attention only on himself, and gather to himself his spirit and his breath, all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust
(Job 34:14–15).
This threatening possibility must make us realize that in everything we depend on God.
