Psalm 104:2 (ESV)

2 covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.

With this great God, everything is full of light. His clothing is light that emanates from heaven, driving away darkness, transparent and clear, and yet, by the power of radiance, enveloping the light source and covering it for the prying eye.1 We can think here of 1 Timothy 6:15b - 1 Timothy 6:16: “The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.”

For us, with respect to God, humility is fitting (compare Job 40:1–9).

Psalm 104:2–4 is about God’s dwelling place in the heavens. He spreads it out above the earth. The mighty heavens, of which we can never see enough, is for the Creator as a simple tent canvas. This again underscores his power and glory. As we can read in Isaiah 40:22, It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them like a tent to dwell in (compare Isaiah 44:24b).

Again, this is a reason to humble ourselves in regard to this great God.
