1. Song of Solomon 3:4 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why does the young woman take her lover to her mother’s house?

Song of Solomon 3:4 (ESV)

4 Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me.

Her mother’s house is a place of safety for her and their relationship. Her determination to take him there is seen in the fact that she held him and would not let him go until she had brought to her mother’s house. This expresses the fact that she is both hopeful and anxious as she anticipates a lifelong union with her lover.
