How is Christian hope more than mere wishing?

Colossians 1:5 (ESV)

5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel,

Hendriksen explains as follows: “Christian hope is not mere wishing. It is a fervent yearning, confident expectation, and patient waiting for the fulfilment of God’s promises, a full Christ-centered (cf. Colossians 1:21) assurance that these promises will indeed be realized. It is a living and sanctifying force (1 Peter 1:3; 1 John 3:3).”1
