In what way is her beloved a sachet of myrrh?

Song of Solomon 1:13 (ESV)

13 My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh that lies between my breasts.

Myrrh is an equally precious substance that is associated with physical love. The myrrh draws her beloved into the most intimate of embraces, between her breasts. He lies there. The Hebrew word is lyn and it usually means to spend the night. He takes up residence in this intimate place where a woman might have secretly hung a sachet of perfume.1 She longs for her beloved to not merely lie with her but to spend the whole night between her breasts like a sachet of myrrh worn as perfume. Their love is not yet able to be consummated in this way, but in the meantime, the myrrh is a constant reminder of him.2
