Psalm 98:4 (ESV)

4 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!

How exuberant this verse is! It also carries forward into the following verses. The words seem to tumble over each other. We are commanded to express this hearty praise of God.

Repeatedly, we read the imperative, a command. At the same time this is a strong invitation for everyone, wherever they live on earth.

The Lord is eager to hear human voices praising him, though the last verb zamar is at the same time a transition to praise with musical instruments. This strengthens the voices even more and we reach our deepest purpose. Thus the Lord receives the honour he so deserves.
