Subsequently, the sun, moon, and stars are called upon to praise the Lord. In the nations that surrounded Israel, the heavenly bodies were worshipped as gods, but the psalm clarifies that the heavenly bodies are products of God’s creative genius; and therefore, they are there to glorify him.
In their relationship to God, people and stars are at one and the same level. Our purpose is not to worship creation, but as creatures to be in awe, to praise God, as Creator of man and creation.
