1. Judges 16:28 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does the Lord want in all this?

Judges 16:28 (ESV)

28 Then Samson called to the LORD and said, “O Lord GOD, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes.”

Even though all he wants is to settle a personal score, the Lord God wants something far more. He wants Israel’s deliverance (Judges 13:5; Judges 14:4). And he has not abandoned this fallen Samson. In spite of all his unwillingness to take seriously his calling, and the blessings God had given him, what happens? The Lord answers his prayer.1
