What does David’s victory show about him?

1 Samuel 30:18–19 (ESV)

18 David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and David rescued his two wives.

David has an emphatic victory, wherein he recovers everything that was taken,1 thereby restoring the confidence of his men in his ability to lead and deliver them. His achievement is reminiscent of Abraham’s recovery of the people and goods of Sodom after his daring pursuit (cf. Genesis 14:15–16).2
