Why did Abigail bow to the ground?

1 Samuel 25:41–42 (ESV)

41 And she rose and bowed with her face to the ground and said, “Behold, your handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.”

Bowing down to the ground, Abigail showed her deference to and respect for David. In this she is presented as a humble woman. She would become the mother of David’s second son, Chileab (2 Samuel 3:3) also known as Daniel (1 Chronicles 3:1).1
