Commentary on Job 17:5 (Summary)

Job 17:5 (ESV)

5 He who informs against his friends to get a share of their property the eyes of his children will fail.

Job uncovers the motive behind his friends’ false accusations. Their motive is reward. By justifying God’s actions, they wish to win God’s favour and blessing. Yet, says Job, for this they should expect God’s punishment, not his blessing.
