What does it mean that David persuaded his men with the words?
1 Samuel 24:7 (ESV)
7So David persuaded his men with these words and did not permit them to attack Saul. And Saul rose up and left the cave and went on his way.
According to the Hebrew, David used strong language when speaking to his men.1 A more literal translation would be that he tore his men apart with his words. He was not leading a rebellion and he would not allow his men to take the law into their own hands.2
