How did David escape through a window?

1 Samuel 19:12 (ESV)

12 So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled away and escaped.

We do not know where David and Michal’s house was, nor whether there were two stories or just one.1 Escaping through the window, David left the house in a way that would not have been noticed by those watching the door. His escape is similar to or reminiscent of the help that Rahab gave to Israel’s spies (Joshua 2:15).2
