Why did Saul throw his spear at David?

1 Samuel 19:9–10 (ESV)

9 Then a harmful spirit from the LORD came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre.

Under the influence of an evil spirit, when Saul heard about David’s latest battle victories, he attempted to kill David with his spear.1
