1. 1 Samuel 19:7 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why did Jonathan report the conversation to David if David was nearby in the field to overhear it?

1 Samuel 19:7 (ESV)

7 And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.

In order to make sure that David heard everything clearly, Jonathan followed up with him after the conversation. He would not know what David was able to hear/discern from his hiding place.1
