1. 1 Samuel 17:37 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why did Saul allow David to go and fight against Goliath?

1 Samuel 17:37 (ESV)

37 And David said, “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!”

Confronted with a very confident David, and with no other men willing to put up their hand, Saul relented and allowed David to go into battle.1 He must have been convinced that there was a chance of victory, albeit a small one.
