Commentary on Job 15:14 (Summary)

Job 15:14 (ESV)

14 What is man, that he can be pure? Or he who is born of a woman, that he can be righteous?

Job had wanted to defend his uprightness before God. Yet, as has been revealed to Eliphaz in his nightly vision (Job 4:12–17), there is no man who is pure and righteous. This belief of Eliphaz goes against God’s own testimony about Job (Job 1:8; Job 2:3).
