1. 1 Samuel 17:8 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why did Goliath refer to the Israelites as servants of Saul?

1 Samuel 17:8 (ESV)

8 He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.

The Philistines are familiar with Saul as the leader of the Israelites. Goliath refers to them as Saul's servants because they are his subjects.
