1. Leviticus 15:31 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the function of Leviticus 15:31?

Leviticus 15:31 (ESV)

31 “Thus you shall keep the people of Israel separate from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness by defiling my tabernacle that is in their midst.”

The final three verses conclude the theological theme of the Code of Cleanliness in Leviticus 11–15. The purpose of these chapters is to prevent Israel from defiling the tabernacle, the dwelling place of God. The verb “separate” (nzr) is used almost exclusively to refer to ritual separation.
