What does the word “cleansing” mean?

49 And for the cleansing of the house he shall take two small birds, with cedarwood and scarlet yarn and hyssop,

The term “cleansing” is derived form the root which means to sin. However, when the word is used in the Piel form, it takes on the opposite meaning, “to remove sin.”
