  2. Exposition

How does Leviticus 14:20–21 relate to the person and work of Christ?

Leviticus 14:20–21 (ESV)

20 And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean.

In Matthew 8, after Jesus had healed a leper, the Lord said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” Here we see that Jesus upholds the Old Testament law. After his death and resurrection, such rituals became obsolete because all offerings find their fulfillment in the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. Restoration with God is only found through the blood of Jesus Christ. The sacrifices of the Old Testament are only pointers to the final sacrifice of Christ.
