Why did the healed person have to shave off all his hair and wash?

Leviticus 14:7–8 (ESV)

7 And he shall sprinkle it seven times on him who is to be cleansed of the leprous disease. Then he shall pronounce him clean and shall let the living bird go into the open field.

The cleansed Israelite then shaved off all his hair and washed, so that he was clean enough to enter the camp to live. At this time, the Israelite was not allowed to enter into his tent so that no impurity might enter into the living quarters. That God was providing restoration to community also indicates that it was he who restored them to health. True worshippers knew that every recovery was from God and anticipated that final, ultimate restoration in his presence.
