What was left of Syria and Damascus would resemble what was left of the former glory of Israel—that is, not much—after the Assyrian attack, which brought this prophecy into fulfillment. The kingdom of Damascus would fall in the same way as Samaria, leaving both nations but a shadow of what they once were.
3 The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the glory of the children of Israel,declares the LORD of hosts.
