James 1:16 (ESV)

16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.

We are in Christ, and that is the filter by which we always think about God. Here he adds the other term for affection, beloved brethren. Not just we are brothers and sisters, but these are men and women in whom James delights. He does not know a lot of them personally, but because God delights in them, he delights in them. And that is a very important truth for you and me. Do you delight in other Christians? Do you delight in those Christians who do not agree with you? Do you take pleasure when you meet another Christian? Do you stop to think: this is a brother or sister in Christ Jesus, and then receive them openheartedly? It might be proven that they err, but receive them with affection, because God chose each of us, put his special love upon us, and has made us part of his family.1
