Job 9:30–31 (ESV)

30 If I wash myself with snow and cleanse my hands with lye,

The Almighty God has once and for all decided that Job must be held guilty. There is nothing that Job can do about it; even if he could wash his sins away, God would see to it that he become dirty again.
